Many children, as well as adults, love listening to music but feel they do not have the “talent” to play music themselves. On the contrary, music is an integral part of all of us, and it only needs the right kind of guidance, encouragement, and nurturing to bring it out. Being a facilitator for that is my goal in teaching the piano.
Learning to play the piano or guitar opens up new worlds to the student. There is a truly special connection with genius that one feels while playing the musical creations of Beethoven, Chopin, Bach, Mozart and others who lived hundreds of years ago. There is an excitement you feel when improvising on the rhythms and melodies of more contemporary pianist/songwriters such as Billy Joel, Carole King, Elton John, and Alicia Keys, or the guitar rhythms, chords, and solos of legendary guitarists such as B.B. King, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, and so many others.
Playing with other musicians brings a special kind of closeness and connection to those who join together to make a joyful musical sound. Many lifelong friendships and some of the most special relationships begin or develop through sharing the love of making music.
If you or your child would like to discover music, and particularly the wonders of playing two of the most complete and versatile instruments in the world, please contact Tom at North Shore Music Studios to discuss starting lessons. Nothing in the world is more worth a try.
